On ‘Parks and Recreation’ Adam Scott and Amy Poehler get laughs as an engaged couple. At the Sundance Film Festival, Scott stars as Poehler’s stepson. Odd? Maybe. Funny? Definitely.
With the exception of a certain Golden Globe Awards night, Adam Scott and Amy Poehler have been together everywhere recently.
Not only do they play an engaged couple on NBC’s Parks and Recreation sitcom, but they also acted alongside each other in the comedy A.C.O.D., which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Wednesday night.
Predictably, the two left the Parks set in Los Angeles and jetted to Utah just in time for the worldwide premiere — where they sat together with Scott’s wife Naomi.
“We’re tight,” says Poehler, taking a break with Scott during the film’s afterparty. “Actually, Adam cannot get rid of me. I haven’t talked to his wife yet, but I am planning on quietly knocking on their door at the hotel tonight.”
“And coming and snuggling with us,” adds Scott.
That’s no problem, as long as the comedy chemistry between the two continues in projects like A.C.O.D. (which stands for Adult Children of Divorce). Scott says he was the one knocking on Poehler’s door to get her to take a supporting role in the ensemble cast, which includes Jane Lynch,Jessica Alba, Richard Jenkins and Catherine O’Hara.
After season four of Parks wrapped, he popped the question: Would she join the movie?
“I begged Amy,” says Scott. ” I wish Amy was in everything I was in.”
While the two play engaged couple Ben Wyatt and Leslie Knope on TV, the roles inA.C.O.D. are entirely different. Scott plays an adult still dealing with his parents’ messy split and Poehler plays his stepmother.
Is that weird?
“There is zero chemistry between the two, hopefully,” says Poehler.
“They do not like each other at all,” says Scott.
That said, Poehler never completely switched mindsets, accidentally calling Scott by his Parks and Recreation name, Ben.
“That was really sweet,” says Poehler. “I don’t even remember the name of your character in the movie. What is it? Carter? Right.”
Besides scenes together in A.C.O.D., the two even enjoyed hanging out on the Georgia set, especially one memorable evening with the cast at a Hampton Inn celebrating Scott’s 39th birthday.
“We drank in the lobby in the lobby until two in the morning. Catherine (O’Hara) made margaritas. It was so fun,” says Scott. “And then we all went into my room and had a full-on orgy.”
“We did. I forgot about that. The birthday orgy,” laughs Poehler.
“They said, ‘What do you want for your birthday?’ and I said, ‘All of you,’ ” says Scott.
Joking of course.
But there is a wedding in the future: Ben will marry Leslie in Parks season 5, which is currently filming.
“Oh my god, it’s going to be amazing,” says Poehler.
“Is it safe to say there will be a lump in your throat?” asks Scott.
“I think that’s safe to say,” adds Poehler.
And it’s safe to say the two plan on bringing their magic to more projects. Scott wasn’t able to attend the Golden Globe Awards that Poehler so memorably co-hosted with Tina Fey (“I thought Amy did incredibly,” says Scott, who watched on TV), but mind was on future collaborations.
“Please pick some things we can work on together,” begs Poehler.
“Avatar 2?” Scott suggests.
“I want to work with Adam until he dies,” Poehler adds, laughing, “Until he dies from acting too much.”
