Abbi Jacobson and Amy Poehler talk ‘Broad City’ End at Deadline’s Contenders Emmys

Back in April, Amy attended Deadline’s Contenders Emmys event and they are slowly releasing some videos from the panels. In this video, Abbi and Amy talked about how ‘Broad City‘ explored female friendships. Unfortunately, the video can’t be embedded, so head over to Deadline’s website to watch it!

This year marked the series finale of Broad City, a show that put a millennial spin on the female-led comedy and spoke to a very specific generation of women. Co-created by and starring Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer and executive produced by Amy Poehler, the Comedy Central series ran five seasons, and through all the off-center New York City stoner adventures, it resonated with audiences and will continue to do so.

Jacobson and Poehler talked during Deadline’s fourth annual The Contenders Emmys about saying goodbye to the series and its impact.

“It’s such an extremely beautiful exploration of female friendship,” Poehler told the Paramount Theater crowd of TV Academy and guild voters. “I know the people relate to that show fell the same way. They own part of that friendship.”

Broad City marks the first series Poehler has produced outside of Parks and Recreation, and she says it’s been a wonderful journey for the show. She also managed to slip in that the show hasn’t been Emmy-nominated yet, “so chop-chop!” she insisted.

Jacobson shared a story about how a fan silently mouthed “Congratulations” to her while she was at lunch in Brooklyn the weekend after the finale aired. She appreciates the fact that the show has resonate with fans and said, “That’s the biggest compliment I could ever ask for.”
